About the audio
All the audio on this page comes from the American English voice of your device (text-to-speech). There are no audio files.
- Listen as many times as you want. Every word and question has a play button. The button that is playing turns coral with moving bars.
- Change the speed. Use Slow to hear each sound clearly.
- Click & Say uses your microphone. Your browser asks for permission the first time. The app listens to your answer and checks it. Nothing is recorded or saved.
- If the app hears the wrong word, that is useful information: it means the sound needs more practice. Listen to the model and try again.
- Voice answers work best in Chrome or Edge. In other browsers you can always tap your answer.
The voice can be different on each device. No sound? Check the volume and the silent mode of your phone.
Sound order
Listen to a word and build it with sounds, not letters. Each word has one extra sound that does not belong.
How to play: tap Listen. Then tap the sounds in the right order. Tap a sound in the box to send it back. Think only about the sounds you hear, not the spelling.
Click & Say
Listen to the question and answer out loud. The app checks what you say, so this game tests your pronunciation too: if you say ship when you mean sheep, the app will hear ship.
How to play: the question plays automatically. Tap Click & Say and say your answer exactly as it is written, or tap the answer. Punctuation and capital letters do not matter.
Memory game
Find the pairs. Match each word with its sound symbol or its stress pattern. When you turn a word card, you hear the word.
Minimal pairs lab
Minimal pairs are two words that differ in only one sound: ship and sheep, best and vest. They are the best way to train your ear and to test your pronunciation.
How to play: choose the sounds you want to practice and a mode. Which word? trains your ear. Same or different? trains your attention. Say it checks your pronunciation with the microphone.
Consolidation: read and pronounce
Consolidate what you practiced. Listen to the model, tap Say it and say each item out loud. The app checks your pronunciation and marks any word it did not hear clearly. If it hears a homophone, like son for sun, it counts as correct, because both words sound the same.
